If you’ve driven I-80 through Cordelia, you’ve seen it. The Producers Dairy plant at 199 Red Top Road is one of the most recognizable sights along the freeway, and it’s one of the District 1 employers I’m proudest to represent.

A Family Business With Deep California Roots
Producers Dairy was founded in 1932, and the Shehadey family has led it since 1949. Today the second and third generations of the family run the company, which is headquartered in Fresno.
When Producers bought the Fairfield plant in January 2018, they made a decision that mattered to a lot of local families. They were the only buyer willing to keep the entire existing team, so those jobs stayed right here in Cordelia.
What I Saw Inside
I’ve toured the plant more than once, including a City of Fairfield meet and greet with the Producers team in May 2025. Walking the floor in a hard hat, hairnet and safety glasses gives you real respect for the people and the precision it takes to get dairy products out the door every day.
Why It Matters for District 1
Manufacturers like Producers bring steady jobs to Fairfield and anchor the business corridor along Red Top Road. That’s one reason I’ve supported advancing the Red Top Road extension and the infrastructure around it. Businesses and the people who work there need roads that work.
Supporting local business isn’t only about ribbon cuttings. It’s about making sure the companies already investing in Fairfield want to keep investing here.
Next time you pass the plant on I-80, you’ll know a little more about the neighbors who work inside.
