People often ask me, “What does a councilmember actually do between meetings?” The answer is: a lot more than most people expect. Here is a look at what a typical week can include.
Council Meeting Weeks
On council meeting weeks, much of my time goes to preparation: reading the agenda packet, researching items and joining a briefing with the City Manager’s office. Closed session often comes first, followed by the public meeting, which regularly runs three to four hours.

Regional Boards and Partnerships
I also serve on the Fairfield-Suisun Sewer District Board of Directors, and I take part in quarterly partnership meetings with Fairfield-Suisun Unified School District and Solano Community College. Study sessions and council retreats add time for long-range planning.
Out in the Community
Then there is the part of the job I love most: being with residents. In a single week, I might tour a city department, attend a ribbon cutting for a new small business, speak at a neighborhood meeting and support a nonprofit event.

By the Numbers
Since December 2022, that work adds up to:
- 85 City Council meetings
- 55 closed sessions
- 27 FSSD board meetings
- 257 public community engagements
- An estimated 1,289+ hours of service
Serving District 1 is not a once-a-month commitment. It is a year-round responsibility, and it is one I am grateful to carry.
